Batman himself says he can “understand” why fans were upset with the film and calls the harsh responses “fair”.

During an interview with Empire Magazine, Ben Affleck acknowledged the issues of the film and in recognized why some friends would be upset. Previously, during an interview with BBC and fellow Superman actor Henry Cavill, Affleck responded to the harsh reviews from fans and critics with a lifeless stare that spawned the “Sadffleck” memes that flooded the internet for months.

Hello, Dark Knight my old friend…

.

During the interview with Empire, Ben was specific in stating that the heroes will be going through a change that he referred to as “natural progress”, though he goes on hinting that this was intended to keep the characters spirits and tone more in-line with their comicbook counterparts.

I can understand people saying [Batman v. Superman] was too dark, or this was outside the tone of what we’re used to seeing with a Batman story, and I think that’s a fair criticism.” –Ben Affleck

At this point, the DC cinematic universe is still in dire need of adjustments, which will undoubtedly be seen in Justice League ever since Joss Whedon stepped in to replace Zack Synder after the latter left for personal reasons.  Reshoots, cut characters,  and a variety of script changes will certainly change the tone of the film. But will it be enough? We will just have to wait and see when the film comes to theaters on November 17.
