We’ve known for some time now that Dwayne Johnson will play Black Adam in the DC Extended Universe. But, we still don’t know when or where.
According to Johnson though, we’re going to see Black Adam soon, and he will indeed fight the Man of Steel.
In a recent interview with Fandango to promote Baywatch, Johnson confirmed a Black Adam movie is indeed coming, and that his character will join the DCEU via an upcoming surprise.
“It’s definitely going to happen, sure,” says Johnson. “We’ve had great conversations with Geoff Johns and everyone over at DC. It’s an exciting time right now for everyone at DC because they are in a process now where they are building out [their DC universe] really nicely. We have a really cool surprise for Black Adam that I can’t reveal, in terms of where we will see Black Adam being introduced.”
Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam for nearly a decade, but it wasn’t until 2014 that the actor formally announced he will be portraying the character via Twitter. Since then, news broke that Black Adam will first appear in a Shazam! movie, followed by a solo film just fearing Adam.
In the same Fandango interview, Johnson also briefly teased a battle between Adam and Superman. When asked if Black Adam will “put the smack down on Superman,” Johnson replied:
“One fine day… that’s coming. That’s in the cards.”
It certainly seems that way. Last Christmas, Johnson posted the photo below of himself and Henry Cavill sharing some drinks, sparking speculation that their respective characters will duke it out in a future DCEU film, such as Man of Steel 2.
So when exactly will we first see Johnson as Black Adam? Maybe as a cameo in Justice League? We still don’t know. But, we believe in The Rock, and what he is cooking, so hopefully it won’t be long before he flies in and charms up the DCEU.
