Broadbent sheds more light on his mysterious role.
[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]ans have been speculating about what role British actor Jim Broadbent will be playing in the seventh season of Game of Thrones. Many believe that Broadbent – who played Professor Horace Slughorn in the Half-Blood Prince and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 – is most likely going to be portraying Citadel archmaester Marwyn.
Screencrush was talking to Broadbent during a recent promotional event for the actor’s upcoming film The Sense of an Ending, during which they point-blank asked him who he would be playing in the new series of HBO’s hit show. After attempting to dodge the question initially, Broadbent ended up revealing he’ll be playing an “old professor character” (which goes in-line with the Marwyn fan theory quite nicely):
“I’m a maester, an archmaester. I’m an old professor character.”
A maester, you say? An archmaester? It’s got to be Marwyn.
Broadbent then went on to elaborate further by revealing that he has significant scenes in five episodes, and the majority of his screen time was shared with John Bradley, aka Sam Tarley.
“I did five episodes. I did sort of one major scene in each episode.”

Given that we last left Sam awaiting the arrival of an archmaester in Oldtown in the Citadel at the end of season six, we’d happily bank on seeing Broadbent as that very same archmaester, and we wouldn’t be too surprised if he went by the name of Marwyn.
Season 7 of Game of Thrones is rumoured to air sometime this June.
