Spinoff films or sequels? Spider-Man’s story surely can’t end with just Spider-Man: Homecoming.

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]f you’re excited for the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film that is due to swing into theaters on July 7th of next year then you’ll be excited to hear that Sony (and possibly Marvel) will be sharing new details regarding your friendly neighborhood superhero. It was at the red carpet premiere in Florence, Italy for Dan Brown’s Inferno starring Tom Hanks that Collider was able to snag an interview with Tom Rothman who is the Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group.

According to Tom Rothman, “there will be real news as opposed to speculated news before too long” meaning that Sony will hopefully be announcing future films for Spider-Man and hopefully more crossover’s involving the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The biggest concern anyone can have with the possibility of sequels or spinoffs involving Spider-Man is if Sony will continue to collaborate with Marvel to produce more films. Sony certainly has a history of producing films involving Marvel characters that end up failing to meet critic and fan expectations. So far, it seems that Marvel is quite happy with the direction that Spider-Man: Homecoming is going and hopes to keep it that way.

Granted, Marvel has done much more than just offer advice and oversee the work that is being put into Spider-Man: Homecoming and all evidence points towards the entertainment juggernaut taking complete control over the film. Nonetheless, can anyone really complain? Every single Marvel film since Iron Man has been a box office success and has pleased all but the most dedicated comic book fans.

Hopefully, Sony will continue to work with Marvel to produce films that not only focus on Spider-Man but allow the teenage web-slinging superhero from Queens to be involved in even more films that take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7th, 2017.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.
