The long-awaited remake may have three giant installments.
The Internet rejoiced last summer when it was announced that Final Fantasy 7 would finally be getting a remake. Months later, the Internet erupted with hate when it was revealed the remake would be a multi-part series, rather than one singular title.
Square Enix has recently clarified how big these “episodes” of the remake will be, and it looks like they’ll be pretty meaty.
In an interview with Game Informer, Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase explained that the remake, “will essentially be a full-scale game for each part of the multi-part series…if we’re just looking at each of these parts, one part should be on par with the scale of one Final Fantasy XIII game.”
Final Fantasy XIII was basically a three-part series on PS3 and Xbox 360, consisting of the first game, XIII-2, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. The length of each game spans from 30 to 50 hours. Generally, it takes about 40 hours to complete the original FF7.
Kitase further clarified that, “in XIII, each instalment told the story from a different angle. It was kind of like approaching an unknown territory in a sense. Whereas with Final Fantasy VII Remake, we already have a preexisting story, so it wouldn’t really make sense if that isn’t encompassed in a multi-part series.”
It’s becoming more and more clear that Square Enix is taking a new approach to FF7 with the remake, and they don’t want to create the same game again in HD, despite what fans think.
That being said, if the remake really is a three-part title composed of three full length games, that means there will be plenty of content for even the saltiest remake-hater.
