HBO is open to starting a prequel series for Game of Thrones! HBO president Michael Lombardo discusses graphic content in the show and Jon Snow!
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hile the sixth season of Game of Thrones is currently filming in Northern Ireland, there have been questions to how many seasons there are left for the show. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss say they want the show to continue for at least seven seasons.
“Seven seasons and out was never the conversation,” said Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, in his first solo executive session on July 30th at TCA. “The question is how much beyond (seven seasons) it will go.”
“David and Dan are feeling there’s probably two more years after Season 6, that’s what we’re looking at right now. We hope that they would change their mind, but that’s how they are feeling now.”
Lombardo was asked an interesting question in if there would be interest in doing a prequel series to Game of Thrones? “We would be open to anything [Benioff and Weiss] want to do, there is enormous amount of storytelling in that world,” Lombardo said. But at that point, “the focus is on figuring out the next few years of the show.”
There has been controversy on the graphic content in the show that features rape scenes and Lombardo addressed the controversy. “This show has had violence as part of its many threads from Episode 1,” he said, adding that “there are no two showrunners who are more careful not to overstep the line (than Benioff and Weiss)”.
Perhaps the biggest speculation after season 5 is whether Jon Snow is actually dead? “Dead is dead as dead as dead. He be dead. Yes. From everything I’ve seen, heard, read, Jon Snow is indeed dead,” said Lombardo.
Season 6 of Game of Thrones is expected to be released in Spring 2016!
