Though still only rumored, it appears Gus Van Stand will be taking over as director for the American film adaptation of the Japanese manga series Death Note. Death note originally ran from 2003 to 2006 and was wildly popular, selling more than 25 million copies and even spawning an anime series that ran from 2006 to 2007. Van Sant is best known for directing Good Will Hunting (1997) and Milk (2008). Both movies earned him Best Director Oscar nominations. The news of the new leadership comes after previous director, Shane Black, left the project to direct the new Predator movie.
