Get ready to meet Domino!

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he upcoming film Deadpool 2 is going to be introducing a few new characters to new fans of the series. Comic book fans are already familiar with Cable, Domino, and the other X-Men who interact with Deadpool. While Cable has been in the news a lot recently there has not been too much about Domino. Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) was recently cast as Domino so now seems like a good time to introduce her to the fans who may not know a lot about her.

Domino, whose real name is Neena Thurman, is a mutant mercenary who had a troubled childhood like many of her mutant counterparts. She was raised in a lab that was trying to create mutant super soldiers. She was saved by her mother from this life but still ended up on the wrong side of the tracks when she joined the mercenary group The Six Pack. She eventually left The Six Pack when she met Cable and joined the X-Force. Domino has remained close to Cable and the X-Force in the comics since then.

Being a mutant Domino has powers that make her unique. Her power is that she can manipulate probability, which means that she can alter the environment around her to give herself advantages in battle while also giving her enemies disadvantages in battle. If she is in a gun battle she can alter the probability of the fight and manipulate the environment to make sure that all of her bullets make contact while the enemies all miss. She can also use her power to give herself superhuman strength and agility. There have been multiple hints that imply that Domino has not reached her potential as mutant so we could be in store for even more from this tough merc.

While Domino is pretty well known in the X-Men comics she has not appeared in much outside of that. While she appeared in the classic X-Men: The Animated Series it was only for a few episodes. Domino enjoyed a larger role on screen in Wolverine and the X-Men where she was a part of the Brotherhood of Mutants and part of Xavier’s resistance group during the show’s future timeline saga. Domino has also appeared in the Deadpool video game and other Marvel video games such as Marvel: Avengers Alliance, Marvel Heroes, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Domino is a very compelling character and it will be interesting to see how she is portrayed in Deadpool 2. Hopefully we get a Domino that we are all happy with!

Deadpool 2 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters in 2018.
