Infinity War Could Mean Big Changes for Phase 4 and the Avengers

Even though we’re just starting to get into the thick of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are rumblings that the next two Avengers films could set the stage for Phase 4.

We learned earlier this summer that the movies will no longer be a two-part film to much rejoicing. Now, there are rumblings that the latest Avengers films could mark the end of some of our favorite characters while marking a new beginning for others.

Phase 3 kicked off earlier this year with Captain America: Civil War and will follow up with Doctor Strange later this fall. We’ve known for some time that the third phase will continue on through the summer of 2019, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating on what we could possibly
expect when Phase 4 finally starts.

It’s a no-brainer that newer characters with their own solo films such as the aforementioned Doctor Strange, in addition to Captain Marvel, Black Panther and Spider-Man, will likely play a major role in the upcoming ensemble films. It would also be reasonable to expect the Guardians of the Galaxy to finally join the fray back on Earth as the two teams join forces to battle Thanos during Infinity War.

Meanwhile, the Avengers movies could very well spell the end for some of the the most prominent heroes of the MCU. Three different characters will have finished their trilogies by the time Phase 3 wraps up. Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor will all have completed three separate films, which means it could finally be time for them to pass the torch to the new generation of Phase 4. There are plenty of questions as to whether Robert Downey Jr. will want to suit up at the ripe age of 51, but the actor confirmed he’s willing to come back for one more go around. Some are speculating that we could see a new Iron Man entirely. Iron Man 4 could be the chance to bring Riri Williams into the MCU; she’s the 15-year-old African-American genius taking over the role in the comics. There are even rumors that Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei from Game of Thrones< /em>) could be interested in playing the part.

Iron Man is just too popular of a character for Marvel to ever get rid of him entirely. After three solo movies, and prominent roles in three others, he continues to move the needle when it comes to audiences. This demand for the armored hero can be further seen through his prevalence in online gaming. Iron Man 3 is one of the more popular slots that can be found online, and it incorporates fan-favorite heroes such as Black Widow, War Machine, and, naturally, Iron Man himself. These innovative takes on traditional casual casino games combine fun and easy gameplay with iconic motifs for mass audiences. The character simply resonates with far too many people to ever completely get rid of the him, but putting someone else in the role (and aligning with the arc of the comics) would make a lot of sense. Not to mention, it’d draw in a whole new fanbase.

This is all hearsay and it’s likely still going to be at least several years before we learn anything concrete concerning Infinity War. With that said, these rumors are just crazy enough that they could actually come true and honestly, they could be just the shake up the MCU needs.
