Naughty’s Dog’s dynamic duo hit PSN this Wednesday.
After being announced this past April, the Jak and Daxter sequels are finally coming to the PlayStation 4. You can download Jak 2, Jak 3, and Jak X Combat Racing via the PlayStation Network on December 6.
The first game in the series, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, launched on PS4 back in August to coincide with the release of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Each game is priced at $14.99, or $39.99 for all four Jak games as a bundle.
As with the first game, each of the sequels will be in PS2 Classics format, meaning they are up-rendered to 1080p resolution, have trophy support, and Remote Play functionality for PlayStation Vita. This also means the games are emulated on the PS4 hardware, which is different from the HD remastered collection the first three Jak games got on PS3. Remastered games are generally prettier than emulated ones, as they contain retooled high definition assets, and performance can be stronger too. Despite this, we’re just glad to see the Jak sequels make it onto Sony’s current console.
Speaking of being glad, this is the first time we’ve ever seen Jak X available outside of it’s original PS2 release. The game is the definitely the black sheep of the series as it an arcade racing game instead of a 3D platformer, and it wasn’t critically or internally well-received. The Last of Us: Left Behind even dedicates a trophy to the game’s lukewarm reception. However, although quite different from Jak 2 and 3, Combat Racing is a fun and competent racer, so give it a try if you missed when it originally released in 2005.
And if you still need more nostalgia, dont forget about the PS2 dashboard theme launching on PS4 December 6 as well.
