He’s just getting started…Shimmy Shimmy Ya’!

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]f you have yet to either binge or casually enjoy Marvel’s Netflix offerings of Daredevil and Jessica Jones well, you have done yourself a disservice. The streaming company has reproduced the unprecedented success of Marvel’s features in their episodic offerings. Both series stand alone but, like anything Marvel, there is plenty teased regarding the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Now comes the first trailer for Netflix’s third Marvel collaboration, Luke Cage. One half of the duo traditionally known as the “Heroes for Hire,” he was already a recurring character on Jessica Jones’ first season. This iteration has already been wrongfully imprisoned and undergone the experimentation that granted him his powers of unbreakable skin and incredible strength. Yet, we are undoubtedly likely to see more of his origin.

The stylish teaser debuted at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) and sets a rollocking tone. Seems like Luke is going to be the reluctant hero with a bad attitude and heavy fists. Daredevil and Jessica Jones are very different series in tone so one could expect that Luke Cage will also carve its own niche.

The third of five series announced by Netflix years ago, Luke Cage will precede the Iron Fist series—the other half of the “Heroes for Hire” duo. All four New York heroes will join forces for The Defenders in 2017.

“Heroes for Hire”

All we can do is be hopeful that Luke Cage once again captures the elusive magic of the MCU. There is plenty to be excited about including appearances by popular comic characters like Misty Knight. Fans can also expect more Easter eggs, name-dropping, and all the other fun that comes with Marvel’s expanded universe.

All episodes of Luke Cage will be available for streaming on Netflix September 30th.
