Exeggutor? Everything going ok buddy?

A new trailer for Pokémon Sun and Moon has dropped, and with it, a bunch of new Pocket Monsters and surprises.

The biggest reveal was new variations of classic Pokémon. Alola Forms, named after the new region where these games take place, are sub-species of preexisting Pokémon that have new appearances and typing.

Confirmed Pokémon with Alola Forms are Vulpix (Ice), Ninetales (Ice/Fairy), Sandshrew, Sandslash (both Ice/Steel), and Exeggutor (Grass/Dragon).

As you’re probably already aware, Alola Exeggutor’s new appearance has attracted a lot of attention online for obviously reasons.

Also revealed in the trailer were a handful of brand new Pokémon, including Oricorio, who has four different typings or “styles,” found on each island of Alola.

And Gumshoos, the evolved form of Yungoos.

“Make Alola great again.”

PokéRide, a new service which allows you to ride on a variety of Pokémon like Tauros or Charizard, was shown too. In Alola, you can fly and surf via the PokéRide service, so could this replace HMs in Alola? We hope so.

Detailed as well was the Island Challenge. Dubbed as your “rite of passage” this new challenge appears to be Alola’s version of the Pokémon League, as instead of challenging Gym Leaders, you complete trials on each island of Alola, which include fighting powerful Totem Pokémon, and Kahunas, the top-trainer of each island. We’re still not entirely clear on how the Island Challenge works, but we appreciate a change in the game’s main quest.

Finally, Z-Moves were shown. These super-powerful moves can only be used once per battle, and are activated through using a special crystal, and performing a Fusion Dance-esque routine. Each elemental type has one specific Z-Move, like Gigavolt Havoc, the Electric Z-Move used by Pikachu in the trailer.

More than anything else, this new trailer shows that Sun and Moon will have brand new features that will hopefully freshen-up the Pokémon formula, and draw in fans both old and new.

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon comes to the 3DS on November 18 in the US and November 23 in the UK.
