Kevin Feige Confirms Spider-Man will NOT Appear in SONY’s Venom Spinoff

Will Spider-Man appear in the Venom spinoff? “No,” says the President of Marvel Studios.

Earlier this week, the premiere for the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming film debuted, and during that time, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige himself took the opportunity to vaguely try and clear the air regarding this whole Venom/Black Cat/Silver Sable MCU debacle.

“No, I think the folks there are making a great ‘Venom’ movie and I don’t know much about it, but I know they’re off to a good start with Tom Hardy.”

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, “Venom” is set to star Tom Hardy in a film that may or may not take place within the overall MCU. What we assume, is that it will indeed be in the MCU, meaning Captain America, Iron Man, and Venom may all be in the same state at the same time together, but that these characters may never meet, mention, or impact each other with their actions.

And although it’s true that Spider-Man won’t likely appear in Venom, a film that will be all about the villain/antihero in his own agenda, it hasn’t been ruled out that Venom may make an appearance, possibly even his first canonical appearance, in the sequel to SpiderMan: Homecoming. The only thing that stands in the way is the timeline release dates, but that all depends. We really don’t know what could change between now and then, and if the timelines will add up. It’s true that Venom will debut in 2018, and that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will release in 2019, but that doesn’t mean that Venom can’t take place in the timeline after the events of the next Spidey sequel. Heck, we know that the events of Civil War will overlap with Homecoming, and the latter is coming out next month, so anything is possible. But alas, we still just don’t know exactly how any of this is going to be executed just yet.

We understand that Sony has a hard-on for Venom. We know that they want him on-screen badly, but we aren’t too sure whether or not they are willing to jeopardize the relationship with Marvel Studios. But then again, Pascal seems to throw words and ideas around like candy without really confirming their legitimacy.

Feige went on to mention that he can’t discuss details regarding Spider-Man’s appearance and relevance to what goes down during the Infinity War films, but we do know that he will be in it for some key moments at the very least. So of course, there’s that. Nothing new to see here, folks. Move along.

To wrap it up, we want to add that we get that multiple sides are saying different things regarding the “reality”, or “universe”. But let’s not kid ourselves. We know that Sony can’t be that dense, right? Right guys?

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. The film swings into theaters July 7th.
