‘Ocarina of Time’ Gets Remade in Unreal Engine 4, and it Looks Incredible

HD Gerudo Valley is stunning.

Nintendo has given us HD remasters of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess for Wii U, but many think the seminal N64 games deserve the same treatment.

Modder and YouTuber CryZENx is one of these people, and has gone ahead and recreated locations from Ocarina of Time in HD through Unreal Engine 4.

Check out one of these locations, Gerudo Valley, in HD below.

Besides the obvious high-resolution environments and textures, the recreation also features realistic lighting and dynamic weather effects, like the visible heat waves. Everything looks absolutely incredible, including Link, who now looks just like illustrations from the game’s strategy guide.

CryZENx explains in the video’s description that he ripped the Gerudo Valley map from the 3D remake of Ocarina of Time for the 3DS as a reference, and then recreated everything else using the Unreal Engine.

The modder has also recreated a number of other OoT locations in UE4, including a Great Fairy Fountain, Death Mountain Crater, and the Temple of Time (below).

Each video includes download links to the project files, allowing fellow modders to build off CryZENx’s creations.

These videos are gorgeous, and with upcoming games like Dragon Quest XI and Kingdom Hearts 3 being rendered in Unreal Engine 4, this make us even more excited now knowing what the engine is capable of.

If anyone’s uncle works at Nintendo, please direct him to these videos.
