Razer Purchases Sound Company THX, Company was Founded by George Lucas

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hile THX isn’t the elite name in cinematic sound that it once was, the company behind the iconic deep note heard before movies was recently purchased by Razer Inc. The PC gaming products company, Razer promises to keep THX autonomous despite the acquisition, promising the only minimally affect the day to day operations of the company.

When Return of the Jedi hit theatres it was THX that was a pioneer for setting sound quality standards for cinemas. Other companies like Dolby have began to dominate the cinematic landscape more recently. Founded by George Lucas in 1983 THX was once the leader in its field and though times have changed it is still a valuable company. Recently they diversified their efforts and began the foray into consumer products.

Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan said the, “main reason for the acquisition is the phenomenal brand that THX have.”

Tan also cites the changing landscape of media where all mediums are converging. He sees the acquisition of THX as paramount as this media convergence continues.
