[dropcap size=small]N[/dropcap]ow, before you panic, the “scrapped” Battlefront game referenced in the article title is not the Star Wars: Battlefront game reboot currently being developed by DICE for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The footage instead comes from Free Radical Design’s Star Wars: Battlefront III, a prospective installment into the original Battlefront series.

Around 30 minutes of footage emerged of gameplay from the pre-alpha state of the game, giving gamers a glimpse at what Star Wars: Battlefront III could have been.

LucasArts never officially confirmed that Battlefront III was in production, despite numerous sources being adamant about the game’s existence. Because there was no official announcement, the game became the subject of speculation.

After some financial turmoil and poor performance from the game Haze, Free Radical Design went belly-up, and the remainder of its assets were absorbed by Crytek UK.

It’s unfortunate that gamers will never get to play Star Wars: Battlefront III because, based on the early footage, it looked to be coming along rather nicely. The two clips show off all manner of familiar characters, vehicles, and landscapes.

The silver lining here is that we will still get a new Battlefront game in the form of DICE’s version. The company plans to make an announcement about their efforts in Spring 2015. You can check out their E3 2014 trailer here.
