“It’s not a game anymore.”
Yes ladies and gentlemen, Sherlock is finally coming back to the small screens sometime in 2017, and we’ve at long last gotten our first proper look at Sherlock and Watson’s long awaited return in the first teaser trailer.
And boy, is it action-packed.

The trailer is quite dark and ominous in tone, and from the terrified look on Sherlock’s face something very bad is afoot. As always there’s oodles of mystery and intrigue to leave us with a wealth of questions as to what Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will face when they return as Sherlock and Watson.
A glimpse of Moriarty (yes, we did miss you) right at the beginning tantalises us with the question of whether or not he can truly be back, or if he’s left behind something terrible in his wake. Either way, it looks like there’s going to be trouble ahead for our favourite detective duo.
Then there’s the question of who actor Toby Jones is playing. With a nefarious cackle like that, he’s got villain written all over him – Jones certainly looks primed to be Sherlock’s new antagonist.
Mary Watson is seen wearing a headscarf and clasping a gun in both hands, which begs the question of whether we’ll be learning more of Mary’s past life in the new season.
There’s also a lot of hospital-like scenery and nurses, which makes us raise an inquisitive brow as to why that is. Just what is going on?
Tensions certainly seem to be running high between some of our old favourite faces too. Mrs Hudson is not happy with Mycroft, and Molly Hooper’s clearly distressed. Whatever’s “coming” can’t be good, that’s for sure.
The exciting trailer definitely leaves us wanting more, and we can’t wait get all these questions answered and more next year.
Sherlock is set to return sometime in 2017.
