Sonic fans are in for a treat.

In an interview with The World Folio, Sega president and CEO Hajime Satomi revealed that Sega and Sony Pictures will be working together to bring a combined live action and computer generated Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

Satomi stated “Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live action and animation hybrid Sonic The Hedgehog movie scheduled for release in 2018″.

Aside from the release window there has been nothing else revealed about the project. The other thing to be kept in mind is that in 2014 Sega announced that they had plans for a CG-animated Sonic the Hedgehog film, and it was said that it was in production in a Japanese studio Marza Animation Planet. Maybe that project has been scrapped to make room for this new one or they still plan to release it alongside each other.

With Sonic turning 25 this June it will be great to see what Sega has planned for the speedsters anniversary.
