Star Wars Battlefront to have Dedicated Servers

Even though past news suggested otherwise, Star Wars Battlefront will have its own dedicated servers.

Recent news about the new Star Wars Battlefront game not having a dedicated server browser had fans in a bit of an uproar. EA was planning on having the matchmaking online server pair up users based on skill sets in order determine the players of the game. This would move away from the traditional set-up for shooters where one could choose to play a game based on maps, modes, player numbers, or where their friends were playing. A fan responded to the news on Reddit claiming “I want to have specific, favorite servers with communities I know etc. I want to have servers with one map only. Matchmaking won’t offer me that.” This was not the only fan who responded in this way to the news which left EA in a bit of a pickle.

Senior producer of the game, Jamie Keen, recently confirmed that even though the game won’t offer a server browser, the game would “absolutely” still offer a dedicated server for the game. Keen claimed that it was “one of the hallmarks of making sure we deliver an unparalleled online [service] for the game.” A Star Wars Battlefront beta will be available to all users in October of this year. The game is slated to release on November 17th, 2015 for the PlayStation, Xbox One, and PC.
