If you film it they will come?

[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he director behind Disney’s Jurassic World is already gearing up for his work on Star Wars Episode IX and he is looking to shake things up a bit in the film industry. For starters, Colin Trevorrow would like to film a scene or two in space and he doesn’t want to film the movie digitally, he wants to use actual film.

“The only place where I tend to not be able to attach myself entirely to something shot digitally is when it’s a period film. There’s something in my brain that goes, ‘Well, they didn’t have video cameras then,'” he said in an interview with The Hollywood Supporter, “[Film] tends to remind us of our memories, of our childhoods, the way we used to see films.”

If Star Wars Episode IX actually does end up being filmed in space, it would be the first film in history to do so. Most films, like Apollo 13 have been filmed in a jet plane called the KC- 135 that takes actors and the crew towards Earth’s upper atmosphere before decreasing altitude and repeating the process again.

“I asked the question, ‘Is it possible for us to shoot IMAX film plates in actual space for Star Wars, and I haven’t gotten an answer yet, but they’ve shot IMAX in space!”

Star Wars Episode IX hits theaters May 23, 2019.
