[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he Netflix smash hit Stranger Things was renewed for a second season shortly after its release. In a recent interview with IGN, creators Matt and Ross Duffer gave some details about the upcoming second season.
One of the biggest changes will be a darker and weirder season 2. Matt Duffer said that season 2 will take some cues from the movies that came out during 1984, the year season 2 will be taking place. In 1984, Ghostbusters and Temple of Doom came out so we can expect some crazy stuff to happen in season 2.
Ross Duffer mentioned that season 2 will have its own plot separate from season 1. He made the comparison to movie sequels when comparing season 1 to season 2. He also said that the goal for season 2 is to have tension resolved by the end of the season just as in season 1.
Another issue that was brought up was justice for Barb. Matt Duffer said that they did not forget about Barb. Since season 1 had opened in only a few days there were some issues that could not be fully explored. He said that season 2 will have the town dealing with the effects of season 1 so there will be mourning for Barb.
The Duffers also brought up that possibility of Nancy getting together with Jonathan. They had both said that they liked the character development for Steve at the end of season 1 and it would not make much sense for Jonathan to be together with Nancy after his development. They did leave the door open for a possibility in season 2 but they were non-committal.
In the interview the Duffers also revealed that season 2 will probably not be the last season. Matt Duffer said that they would like to take a blueprint Breaking Bad for how long for the show to last. He said that they are still trying to figure out how long it will take for the story to finish. Matt Duffer did say that he cannot see the show going for six or seven seasons but he just does not know right now.
