Update @ 1:44p PST: Justin Roiland has not only been dropped by Adult Swim but NBC News is reporting that Hulu has also announced they have ended their partnership with Roiland. Additionally, Justin Roiland has resigned from Squanch Games (High On Life) as its CEO.

Original Article:

Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland is in some seriously deep shit, so to speak. Back in 2020, Roiland was charged with “one count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud or deceit” after an alleged incident that took place in Orange County, CA.

We aren’t here to point fingers or make claims of guilt or innocence but it seems that the situation has gotten to a point where the felony that Roiland is allegedly accused of has resulted in Adult Swim severing ties with Roiland.

THR is reporting that Rick and Morty will live on and continue without Roiland, presumably aiming to fulfill its target of the 70-episode order contract that was made back in 2018 with plans to reach at least 10 total seasons. As of right now, that contract has only fulfilled not even half of its 70-episode order. The show, which was co-created by Roiland and Dan Harmon, will see Roiland credited as co-creator for the foreseeable future while Harmon takes over as the solo showrunner.

Adult Swim, the distributor behind Rick and Morty, a subsidiary of Cartoon Network, is planning on recasting the voices of Rick and Morty, both of which were voiced by Roiland. Additionally, Roiland has a handful of other projects that are still ongoing with Hulu, such as Solar Opposites and Koala Man, the former of which Roiland provides voice work and the latter of which Roiland serves as an executive producer. We have heard no official word on Hulu’s stance on these allegations but presumably, they may make the same choice as Adult Swim/Cartoon Network.
