‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Rumored to be Eyeing these Directors

The first step was MGM and Warner Bros. working to get the a reboot of the video game franchise off the ground. Next step? Find a director.

[dropcap size=small]E[/dropcap]verything seems to be falling into place for bringing the Tomb Raider video game reboot to life on the big screen. MGM had partnered with GK Films and then Warner Bros. hopped on board by hiring Even Daugherty to write the script back in February. Since then, the firms have been pursuing several female filmmakers to direct the reboot.

At first the rumors claimed that the list of potential female directors were Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break, The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), Catherine Hardwicke (The Twilight Saga) and Mimi Leder (The Leftovers, Deep Impact). Sounds like a solid line up, right? Unfortunately Kathryn Bigelow will have to be cut from that list. Her representative contacted Slashfilm and said, “Kathryn has not met with anyone about this project, and does not have any interest in directing this film.”

It’s a damn shame that Kathryn isn’t interested in directing a Tomb Raider reboot, her work on Zero Dark Thirty was especially impressive and she could certainly bring something special to the potential reboot. That being said, the hunt continues for another female filmmaker.

Who do you think should direct the reboot? Any ideas on potential actresses for the role of Lara Croft? Hayley Atwell or Emma Watson wouldn’t be a bad choice. Let us know on Twitter!
