The Cast of ‘FANT4STIC’ Have Not Seen the Movie, Doubts Sequel Will Ever Happen

Kate Mara isn’t very optimistic about Fantastic Four 2: We’ll try harder.

Sigh…Oh Fant4stic, poor, poor Fant4stic. An utter failure with critics, audiences, and, apparently, cast members too.

In an interview with The Times, Kate Mara, reluctantly, discussed her role as Sue Storm in Fantastic Bore. The interview was fairly brief however, as it turns out Mara, like most of the world, hasn’t actually seen the film.

Mara revealed that she, and the rest of main cast, have yet to see the final version of the movie. She explained that her reasoning specifically is that the film’s very poor reception has made her “a little bit gun-shy.”

Also discussed by Mara (who will be appearing in Ridley Scott’s The Martian, releasing on October 2nd), is the current status of the planned Fant4stic sequel, currently slated for July 9, 2017. The actress has “no idea” if the sequel is still happening, which makes sense, considering the first film has only grossed $160.8 million dollars worldwide. To give you a better idea of how stinky that number is, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer grossed $289 million worldwide.

Mara’s knowledge of Fant4stic 2’s fate contradicts recent reports on the hypothetical sequel, though. Simon Kinberg, the producer of the first film who is rumored to have stepped in to helm the film after director Josh Trank stopped working on it, is confident that a sequel is going to happen, as he told MTV News recently that he is “really focused on the next one.”

Even with all the “focus” in the world, do we need Fant4stic 2? Could this theoretical sequel redeem a film that we called “laughably bad?” I don’t know. Personally, I just want everyone to “focusing” on the first movie.

Fant4stic was plagued with problems on and off set, a director who ultimately wasn’t proud of the finished film, and now, actors who are afraid to watch the movie they starred in. It’s a shame, and we need to stop dwelling on it.

Kate Mara, I’m right there with you. I haven’t seen the film, and I don’t want to. Fant4stic happened, it blew, let’s move on.
