How should we start 2017? Tomb Raider reboot? Sounds like a plan!

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n an early report from Mr. Entertainment World, 2017 will kick off with the reboot Tomb Raider movie officially starting the shooting process in January. Filming sites for the movie include South Africa and the UK, but it is unknown to whether any other locations will be added to the list.

This version of Tomb Raider will be more of an origin of Lara Croft than the previous films. Similar to the 2013 Tomb Raider game, the movie will focus on a younger Lara Croft, who’s trying to find her father and the secrets to her family’s past.

When the movie was announced, there were rumors that Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley would be the favorite to take the role of Lara Croft. But Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander was officially cast for the lead role in April.

Vikander is known for her key roles in Ex Machina and the reboot of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. She earned an award for Best Actress as Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl.

Walter Goggins (The Hateful Eight, Justified) is set to play the villain and oppose Vikander.

Tomb Raider is written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who’s known for also writing ROM, Sherlock Holmes 3, and Gotham City Sirens. Tomb Raider will be directed by Norwegian director Roar Uthag.

Tomb Raider is set to be released to theaters on March 16, 2018!
