[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]his past weekend at Comic-Con in San Diego, director Peyton Reed along with some of the cast including Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lily, and Corey Stoll, showed off a bit of footage of the upcoming Ant-Man film. While there was no Q&A during the session, a few plot details were given, mainly by Michael Douglas, who is playing Henry “Hank” Pym, an entomologist and physicist who discovered and created the technology that gives Ant-Man the ability to shrink down and communicate with various insects while maintaining the same weight.

During Comic-Con, Marvel revealed this theatrical poster to EW.
During Comic-Con, Marvel revealed this exclusive concept art by Andy Park in the form of a classic theatrical-style poster to EW.

Douglas went on about how Hank’s wife, Janet Van Dyne dies early on in the film during a tragic accident. Comic fans will recognize Janet as the Wasp, a founding member of The Avengers, and a rather important character in the Marvel Universe, so it’s uncertain what type of role, if at all, she will have in the film.

Evangeline Lily, who was rumored to play the Wasp, has been confirmed instead as Hank Pym’s daughter, Hope Van Dyne.

Paul Rudd will be playing Scott Lang, a light-hearted thief who attempts to steal Hank’s original technology and later becomes a sort of protege of Pym’s. The main story will be about their growing partnership and Lang undoubtedly becoming a hero of some sort.

Corey Stoll has been cast as Darren Cross, otherwise known as the villain of the film, “Yellowjacket”.

After their brief talks about what to expect of the film, there was then a small clip of Lang in the suit evading would-be pursuers and getting away by latching onto the back of a fly to make a daring escape.

Principal photography is not set to start until roughly a few weeks from now, but it sounds like they are on the right track after losing director Edgar Wright and more recently, actor Patrick Wilson. Hopefully after all these obstacles, the film can finally get to where it needs to be and deliver what fans are hoping will be a fun, entertaining film.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lily, and Corey Stoll. The film is slated for a July 17, 2015 release and is being developed by Marvel Entertainment.
